STRUCTURED ANALYSIS AND DESIGN WORKSHOP

This course reconstructs the classical computer science topics of "systems analysis and design", mapping information flows and data modelling ‐‐ within a framework derived from industrial design. Compared with the traditional approach, the focus of attention will shift from systems to services, mainframes to networks, the desktop to the street, organizational workplaces to
institutionally organized relationships, cognition to physical activity, and individual users to communities of practice.

The class will be organized around presentations by interdisciplinary teams, with minimal lecturing.  Focus will be on the design process and the teams' own experiences will become raw material for their projects.

At the end of the training program, the participants are expected to:

• Learn the four (4) information gathering approaches: structured interview, focus group,
workshop, and requirements     management
• Understand the correct method of conducting a structured interview, focus group discussions, and gap analysis
• Learn the definition of a workshop and other information gathering approaches and techniques
• Understand the importance of requirements management and how this can severely affect project scope
• Learn the four (4) data modeling techniques: activity analysis, entity relationship modeling, use case realization, and business rule specification
• Learn the fundamentals of the Unified Modeling Language and how this is used today
• Hands on experience in Microsoft Visio 2007
